Obtaining a trademark registration in Kyrgyzstan does not guarantee perpetual rights. The owner must periodically renew the registration to maintain exclusive rights over the mark. Like the European Union trade mark (EUTM) regime, Kyrgyzstan grants a finite term of protection and requires payment of renewal fees at specific intervals. This article uses official sources – the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on Trademarks, Service Marks and Appellations of Places of Origin of Goods and materials from the government’s investment portal – to explain how and when to renew a trade mark in Kyrgyzstan, what documents are necessary, who can handle the process, and what happens if renewal deadlines are missed.
Term of protection and renewal periods
Initial term
Article 15 of the Kyrgyz trademark law stipulates that a trademark registration is valid for ten years from the date of filing the application with the State Agency of Intellectual Property and Innovation (Kyrgyzpatent). The certificate confirming the registration shows the filing date and, therefore, the expiry date. Owners should keep the certificate handy or consult the Kyrgyzpatent register to know when the ten‑year term ends.
